Jacques Vesery - Artist/ Sculptor, Master Woodturner
About this event
Jacques Vesery, Artist/ Sculptor and master woodturner is known for his highly detailed and colorful pieces which are often mistaken for pottery or stone due to their intricate surface design. He likes to say, "I’m creating the illusion of reality. Until you pick up [one of my pieces], maybe you don’t know what it is [made from].” His vision and inspiration begin with repetitive patterns derived from the 'golden mean' or 'divine proportions'. The marriage of pattern, form and proportion conveys a sense of growth from within each of his pieces.
Deborah Weisgall described his work In Maine Magazine this way, "Jacques Vesery’s objects exist somewhere between utility and fantasy, between the real world and a place where wonder is the purpose of all things. Turner and carver. Sculptor and painter. Craftsman and artist. What Vesery is fits no definition. What he does is this: he fashions wood into tangible marvels, luminous containers for his spirit."
Jacques Vesery has lived in Maine for over 25 years. He has lectured on design and concepts within his work in France, Italy, England, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and 28 US states. His work is in numerous public and private collections including the Detroit Institute of Art, the Contemporary Art Museum of Honolulu, Yale University Art Gallery and The Carnegie Museum. See his work at the ArtPeople Gallery and Turning Gallery.
