Our American culture has roots in all the cultures of the world. Folk songs connect us across miles and time. In this class we’ll share the rich heritage of Native American songs and songs of immigrants from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

What are the songs your parents and grandparents sang with you, that you sing with your children and grandchildren? Each week we will explore similar roots in different traditions. Our focus will be on exploration, not on performance. All voices are warmly welcome!

This class may be taken by itself or along with “How Does Music Work?”, which is offered at the same location at 1:30 – 3:15 p.m.

Instructor Susan Borg sings and teaches music with folks of all ages. She is currently the Choir Director at the Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and leader of Coastal Senior College’s monthly Any Body Can Sing Activity. Susan’s classes are welcoming and active. After graduating from Middlebury College with a degree in Music, Susan sang briefly with the Chicago Lyric Opera and the Oakland Symphony Chorus. She sang for many years with the world music a cappella group WomenSing.
