Transition News from CSC President Maryanne Ward

Welcome aboard!

You have found our old blue CSC sailboat rigged out in brand new colors; your Coastal Senior College is now an independent non-profit college in the Maine Senior College Network. As in any renovation there are still things to be done and because of covid we are still limited to Zoom as our method of getting together. Some new activities will have to wait until Fall term when we see what ports (aka meeting sites) are open to us. You will find a blank spot here and there; we are continuing to build as we move forward. More of that later, for now let me give you a bit of a guided tour.

In the past all memberships were for one year starting with the Fall term. Now we have rolling memberships. If you join now you will renew next January.  If you wait until Spring then your year starts then. Because Memberships have always been non-refundable this new system guarantees you a full year no matter when you join.

With our new online system you can register for CSC Winter Courses and pay with a credit card. Registering on line gives you the best opportunity to get the classes you want. An online bonus: if the class you want is full, you can request to be put on the waiting list. If an opening becomes available, you will be notified by email.

Alternatively, you can mail-in your registration by downloading and completing the Course Registration form found in the Winter 2021 Catalog and mailing it to us along with your check, understanding that i
t will take extra time for us to get to the post office, open envelopes and then type in your requests. There is no phone or in-person registration.

Although this year it will be Take Out only, we will again have our Members’ Brown Bag Lunch series. We are calling this year’s series A Maine Sampler.  Be sure to check out the offerings. Members can invite a guest who will receive an independent Zoom link so you both can attend the lecture and not worry about social distancing. Registration is online only and free to CSC members and their guests.

You will have noticed my new assistants, the Puffins, who really are almost as talkative as senior college members.  You can start a new membership by clicking on or if you have a touch screen gently touching, not poking, the puffin and following the directions.

I wish us all a stimulating, renewing and safe trip with old and new friends as we launch another voyage on our quest for lifelong learning.

Stay safe,

Maryanne (aka Ancient Mariner)
