CATHERINE of ARAGON in "King Henry VIII"

Born in 1585, Catherine was the youngest
surviving child of Spanish Monarchs
Ferdinand II of Aragon and
Queen Isabella I of Castile.

She was betrothed at the age of three
to Arthur, Prince of Wales,
heir apparent to the English throne.
Educated & poised she married Arthur
in 1501 at age sixteen, but was
tragically widowed five months later.
In 1509 she married Arthur's younger brother,
King Henry VIII.
A quarter century marriage without a male heir
was illegally broken when Henry became
infatuated with Anne Boleyn.
Banished from court, she died at the age 
of fifty-one, never having returned to Spain.
"Though unqueened, yet like/
a queen and daughter to a king, inter me."
