September 25: Owls Head with Andrea Greenwood, Mark Harris, and Michelle Miller
Our walk begins at the Owls Head Lighthouse, originally constructed in 1825 and rebuilt in 1852. The walk from the parking lot is along a dirt road with nice views of a beach, the Mussel Ridge channel, and Monroe island, ending with a long flight of stairs, past the keeper’s house to the actual light, situated high above the surf of Rockland Harbor.
After this, we will drive to Ash Point for a brief tour of Owls Head’s Old Homestead, a property constructed before 1820 on what was originally known as the Crockett Farm and now maintained by the Mussel Ridge Historical Society.
The excursion will conclude with a picnic at the home of Michelle Miller and Russ Krauss, on North Shore Drive in Owls Head. Michelle, Andrea, and Mark are all CSC members and area residents.
